OVERVIEW

The United Nations mandate for sustainability can be described as: sustainable development is the development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.

Wisdom’s number one priority is developing sustainable adhesives products. The GreenBond Sustainable Adhesives Scorecard creates quantifiable standards for Wisdom to follow as they develop more sustainable adhesives products. Additionally, the scorecard gives customers more information about the sustainable nature of Wisdom’s adhesives products.

Wisdom Adhesives is the first in the adhesives industry to quantify sustainability with its GreenBond Sustainable Adhesives Scorecard. Wisdom’s formula determines both the green score and the sustainability level for their adhesive products. The formula includes three quantifiable components; green, the non-VOC, and the functionality.

The GreenBond Scorecard is composed of three major quantifiable components and are listed below:

1. % Component that is not derived directly from petrochemicals — i.e. otherwise known as % Green Component.
2. % Component that is a non-Volatile Organic Compound — known as % Non-VOC. VOC here is approximately associated here with known industry standards such as modified EPA Method 24 and the like.
3. Functional component of the product — known as Functionality

Adhesive products are often sold and bought on a per weight basis (often times per LB cost) or even more sophisticated methods of per applied LB cost. Now, with the advent of a GreenBond Scorecard, the per unit cost can be supplemented with an environmental cost leading to an ultimate sustainable buying and selling opportunity.

GREENBOND SCORECARD FORMULA

In the above formulation the GreenBond Score is split mainly into two components of equal value — the % Green Component and the % Non-VOC. The sum of these two components is multiplied by the Functionality Quotient. (described in more detail below).

Functionality Quotient:

The functionality quotient is a key component to scoring adhesives and involves such
factors as:

• Relative performance strength of the chemistry of the adhesive.
• Relative recyclability of the product.
• Lean Manufacturing principles used in the processing of the adhesive — at Wisdom Adhesives this directly relates to the Wisdom Total Quality Management (WTQM) with a Lean Six Sigma — Focused Accelerated Service Team (LSS-FAST) approach
• Renewability.
• Biodegradability-Compostability-Repulpability.
• Overall Energy Conservation — from Raw Material to Adhesive Manufacturing to Adhesive User — detailing the Energy Used and Waste Material Generated.
