B. What does sustainability mean to us?
Sustainability is a complex term that can be applied to many facets of an organization. Following are a list of vital elements of sustainable organizations:
- A strong and focused mission that involves a strategic plan to achieve the mission.
- Well thought out and manageable programs that address a communal issue and that are inclusive to many individuals. These programs should include different steps where successes/failures are measurable and adjustable.
- A governing structure that can provide vision, policy, and support to the organization.
- Motivated and engaged staffs who are able to work diligently in a healthy and stable working environment.
- A strong presence in the community and high visibility.
