The events of the last two years have brought about tremendous challenges and opportunities to our organization that have never been seen in our 140 year history. Business is moving faster, volatility is higher, and technology changes ever-rapidly. Through these factors, Wisdom Adhesives remains grounded in its focus on serving our customers, attending to our valued employees and giving back to the communities in which we operate. We call this the Wisdom Way.

As an example, Wisdom Adhesives has traditionally served the bookbinding and graphic arts industries; however, change was necessary to keep up with the ever moving landscape of these industries. The number of printed and bound books is projected to be relatively flat and stable for the next several years, but the advent of digital printing, on-demand publishing and e-books has transformed the industry in a way that will significantly influence the future of print media. We at Wisdom have changed with the demand of these companies by revamping our WizBond Bookbinding line to better match our customers’ needs for faster turn-around, adhesion to non-traditional surfaces and ease of use on new binding equipment. In addition, we’ve also firmly established a global strategy to match the market needs.

Paraphrasing the words of John F. Kennedy, we ask not what our customers can do for Wisdom, but what Wisdom can do for our customers. Adapting to a changing industry, like the bookbinding market, is key to our long-term viability. This is our core belief and it is one we adapt and strive to attain.

It is with great pride that I am writing to tell you that we are celebrating our 135th Anniversary of providing the best in industrial adhesives to our customers. As we head into our 135th consecutive year of business as the longest running adhesives company in North America, we want to thank all of our customers, employees and the communities in which we operate. Wisdom Adhesives was built on one premise; serve the customer well and the business will grow. It is a premise that is still the foundation of our company.

Getting to 135 years has not been easy. Wisdom Adhesives has experienced many highs and lows. Founded in 1875 on Canal Street in downtown Chicago by my great great grandfather, Phillip Wisdom, Wisdom has weathered the Great Depression, rationing of raw materials during World Wars I and II, increasing competition as well as the incredible changes in technology.

Wisdom Adhesives has been, and continues to be, an innovator and manufacturer of environmentally compatible industrial adhesives. We are especially proud of our key programs directed by, and for, our customers and include our:

It is with great honor and pride that I am writing to you today. Wisdom Adhesives was named 2009 Illinois Family Business of the Year by Loyola University Chicago’s Family Business Center. It is very humbling to me personally to even be considered for, let along win, this prestigious award. Many companies were worthy of this award, and we were very fortunate to be selected. We were chosen because of our dedication to our employees, our contributions to our community and our growth as a business.

All of us at Wisdom are proud of what we have accomplished, realizing that this award comes to us because of all the generations of Wisdom Adhesives family and employees who set the standards and established the foundation of the company we are today. Through good times and bad, Wisdom has always put our customers first.
